The Science of Predicting Success and Failure

There are lots of assessment tools out there, from the Myers-Briggs, DISC, NEO-PI, 16PF and Enneagram, to name a few out of hundreds…if not thousands.

But regardless of how good, useful, or valid they are judged to be, none can beat the Hogan when it comes to predicting job performance, and especially leadership success and failure.

The Hogan Assessment Suite includes a report called “The Leadership Forecast Series”, which is truly a powerful analysis of critical leader personality variables. This paragraph, from the Hogan Assessments website does a good job summarizing why I’m throwing my full support behind Hogan Assessments.  (This is a non-paid endorsement; and I don’t endorse products easily.)

“The Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI) is a measure of normal personality and is used to predict job performance. The HPI is an ideal tool to help you strengthen your employee selection, leadership development, succession planning, and talent management processes. The HPI was the first inventory of normal personality based on the Five-Factor Model and developed specifically for the business community. The HPI is a high-quality psychometric evaluation of the personality characteristics necessary for success in careers, relationships, education, and life. Whether you are implementing an organizational assessment processes or enhancing your executives’ development, the HPI reports can help you identify the fundamental factors that distinguish personalities and determine career success.” See Hogan Assessment’s website for more information.

So how will the Hogan assessment suite predict performance your performance? Scientifically! They have tons of super-high-quality predictive data.

Their Industrial-Organizational psychologists and psychometricians have data on:

  • Personality characteristics of good and bad bosses
  • Traits of leaders who fail
  • Definition of leadership
  • Reducing turnover and retaining employees
  • Developing good managers
  • Determining if a personality assessment is valid
  • Controversy of faking assessments
  • Performance measurement
  • Adverse impact and legality of the assessment process
